By Katie Lamm

staring back at me
is the face of an angel —
someone who i am supposed to be.

and i see the gaps that i could fill
and i’ll still want
to rip out my pieces
and place them into where they fit
and throw away the ones that don’t fit
that never could fit
because i am crooked and uneven.
staring back at me
is a blue-tinted screen
with smiling, happy people seeming
to be stuck inside
trapped in that moment — that perfect moment —
Forever.

When she wrote this poem, Katie Lamm was a 16 year old KidSpirit editor from Memphis, Tennessee.

Artwork by Kayla McPherson who was 13 years old from Puerto Rico.
