Jack Kornfield was trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, Burma, and India and has taught meditation around the world since 1974. He was one of the key teachers to introduce Theravada Buddhist practice to the West. For many years his work has focused on integrating and bringing alive the great Eastern spiritual teachings in an accessible way to Western students and society.

Kornfield holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is a co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society and founding teacher of the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre, California. From a number of CDs he has done with Sounds True, he was asked to put together an Audio Learning Course consisting of his eight essential teachings.

Jack Kornfield is eminently qualified to present "A Guide to the Deeper Dimensions of the Inner Journey" based on his 38 years of writing and teaching about meditation, mindfulness, Buddha, and psychology. These teachings often take place in settings where advanced students are present. In each and every selection, Kornfield shows himself to be a wise, patient, and sensitive spiritual facilitator.

The eight sessions he has chosen are:

1. The Sacred Journey
2. The Way of the Warrior
3. Initiation
4. The Journey of Nachiketa
5. How Shall We Live?
6. Difficulties as Part of the Path
7. Living with a Mindfulness of Death
8. Letting Go: Buddha's Last Sermon

We were quite impressed with Kornfield's delineation of the archetypal stages of awakening, his attention to obstacles and what can be learned from them, his salutary use of teaching stories, his advocacy of universal virtues, and his edifying treatment of being mindful of death in the midst of our days and doings.
