Vivian Walsh writes on the first page of this magical children's book: "Love the creatures big and small, that's the long and short of it."

June and August meet each other in the dark and share a fascination with the night sky. June delights in a shooting star whereas August loves the moon. They decide to meet in the daytime and ask how they will know each other. August says "I am very handsome," and June says "I am very clever." They discover that they are very different: he is an elephant, and she is a snake. Others in the jungle look at them askance, but they revel in each other's company and end up sharing another viewing of the night sky.

The lively illustrations by Adam McCauley help carry home the uptempo message of diversity and friendship.
