This book contains presentations from a 1993 conference. The 24 essays are organized under three headings: mapping the territory of soul, the individual soul journey, and soul and community. In the spirit of the Romantic poets, the American transcendentalists, and early pioneers of soul-making, these visionaries and workshop leaders probe the mysteries of the inner life and explore the adventures of making meaning in everyday life. Among the best essays are those by Angeles Arrien on "Walking the Mystical Path with Practical Feet," Merrill Ware Carrington on the Christian tradition of Ember Days, and Jack Kornfield on "Awakening a Sacred Presence."
