This book presents a cogent and illuminating portrait of how two people can create a world of meaning together. The author believes that every psychological obstacle in a relationship provides "a special kind of spiritual opportunity." Welwood examines some of these including the false self, creating enemies, avoidance of the relationship shadow, domination, fear of emotional honesty, and expectations. At the end of each chapter, the author skillfully weaves together dialogues between couples which focus on the art of developing a sacred psychology of couplehood. Welwood concludes that when the heart breaks open in the home, the world is made into a more spiritual place.
