This retreat was held on July 25 and is now closed.

Have COVID isolation, racial tensions, and civic unrest thrown you off track? Gently guided writing is a safe way to tend pandemic hurts and discover hidden strengths. We write to remember, and to be able to forget.

This contemplative retreat offers time for guided writing, quiet meditation, and group reflection through Zoom gatherings. It also includes ample breaks to allow you personal contemplative time. Here's the shape of our day together:

  • A two-hour Zoom morning session (11 - 1 ET; 8 - 10 PT) will set the context for the retreat. We will speak and listen in triads, explore questions together, and gather ideas through provocative prompts and timed writing sessions.
  • A two-hour break (1 - 3 ET; 10 - 12 PT) will include suggestions for eating, reading, writing, resting, and listening in nature.
  • A two-hour Zoom afternoon session (3 - 5 ET; 12 - 2 PT) will combine a body meditation, a breakout session for extroverted expression, a written Dialogue with Wisdom, and next steps.

We will make a recording of Judith's talks available after the retreat. So if you need to miss part of it, you will be able to catch up on her portions.
As we reflect together, we will make space for both introverts and extroverts, who cope differently with uncertainty, doubt, and fear. We will ask questions and open the door to wonder, leading us from volatile "what ifs?" to a grounded "what is."

Our retreat guide is Judith Favor, a seasoned spiritual director, Quaker educator, and great-grandmother who has been writing since she could hold a pencil, and guiding others in contemplative writing since the 1970s. She is also offering a four-week e-course in August, "As It Is: Spiritual Journaling - 2020" with different writing and reflecting prompts. Take both the day retreat and the four-week e-course for a discounted price.

Please sign up no later than 10 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, July 24, so that we can be sure to include you in our mailing about how to join the gathering. In addition to sending out an email with the login information, we will be posting it in the retreat "Practice Circle" that's accessible to people who sign up for the retreat.
