Fairy tales are usually entertaining stories that yield deep wisdom about the human experience. After S&P hosted Thomas Moore's very popular 2019 e-course "Fairy Tales," we are happy to welcome him back for a second e-course on these stories for young and old alike. In this one-month program, he focuses on two advantages in reading fairy tales: to explore hidden powers that we can adopt and to find unexpected insights that can help us deal with life’s challenges.
Fairy tales are not all sweetness and love, as most have some dark characters and scary situations. The key is to have a wide-open imagination and a skill for seeing metaphor. This e-course doesn’t “psychologize” fairy tales, as some writers do, but instead looks for the codes and patterns that shed light, in a way that old fairy tales can, on being human. Reading them, reflecting upon them, and discussing them, we discover fresh angles on the human adventure, plus many examples of clever and magical powers useful when we are facing overwhelming obstacles.
"Fairy Tales: The Hidden Magic of Life" consists of 12 lessons, which will be sent on the frequency schedule you choose. Each contains:
- a summary of the tale
- a commentary by Thomas Moore
- practice suggestions and ways to bring the tale's meaning into your own life
