This heart-affecting drama is about the spiritual potency of freedom and the redemptive power of love.

Jason Patric plays a soft-spoken farmer in the Rocky Mountains of North Carolina in 1815 whose wife has recently died. Returning home with supplies and some new livestock, he comes across Analees (Thandie Newton), a runaway slave. Her determined and brutal owner (Larry Drake) has put up a large reward for her capture. Once the farmer decides to help Analees, he puts all he has in jeopardy. Along the way, they share secrets and realize how much they have in common.

The Journey of August King is a beguiling and well done film that is also deeply moral.
