Sister Act is a real lark. After Deloris (Whoopi Goldberg), a lounge singer in a casino, witnesses a mob murder, the police decide to protect their witness by sending her to a convent. Deloris finds it hard to adjust to the life of a nun — she dislikes the spartan condition, the lousy food, and the sternness of the Mother Superior.

But then she finds her true vocation — leading the convent choir. With inspired creativity, she translates the pop songs "My Guy" and "I Will Follow Him" into snappy devotional anthems. The nuns help change her life and she transforms the mission of the convent. The upbeat message of this film is best expressed by Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore: "God respects me when I work but He loves me when I sing!"
