This film tells the story of 14 soldiers from a unit of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division who spent ten days in May 1969 trying to take a hill held by North Vietnamese regulars. Screenplay writer and coproducer Jim Carabatsos effectively portrays the camaraderie and courage of these grunts who follow orders and fall like flies in repeated assaults as they battle to capture more turf on real estate they nickname Hamburger Hill. Dylan McDermott is good as a tough sergeant, and Courtney B. Vance sizzles as an angry black medic.

Hamburger Hill is based on a true incident. The men in the company suffered 70% casualties. The hill was eventually captured, only to be abandoned later. The film serves as a grim reminder of what it was like for young men to live and die in Vietnam.
