Here is a fresh, funny, and abrasive film about three high school seniors who are drawn closer together by a terrible loss. Patti (Lili Taylor in an extraordinary performance) is a working-class single mom who talks tough and loves fixing cars. Emma (Anna Grace) is a sensitive and serious young woman who can't forget being raped on a date. And Angela (Bruklin Harris) is an angry African-American who's trying to find her own path into an uncertain future. Jim McKay's feature film debut as a director conveys the bottled up rage of these friends at being abused, used, and ignored. Together, they find pride and power in several acts of vengeance. Playing the outlaw and breaking the rules, after all, are not the sole prerogatives of men. Sisterhood in this gritty film is truly empowering.
