Like so many helpful insights that circulate today, 'Think of life as a series of imperfect facts' sprang from a Zen mind.

I have used this reminder in countless ways for my own personal development and in my psychotherapy practice and spiritual teaching.

It takes a phrase like this one to remind us that very often our reactions and outrage reflect an unconscious belief that life ought to be perfect. Or that our life ought to be perfect.

Of course, if I were to ask you, 'Do you expect your life to be perfect?' you would almost certainly say no. So it is worth checking how often you become angry or frustrated when something relatively minor goes wrong, or when events don't turn out in the way you most wanted. You may even feel insulted as well as outraged when life refuses to follow your commands!

Turn such moments into Zen moments: think of life as a series of imperfect facts. And know, too, that sometimes those apparent turns for 'the worse' are favors in disguise.
