• How would you greet a friend that you had not seen in a while? What would you say? How would you act? Now think of how you would greet a colleague or co-worker? What would be similar? What would be different?
  • Think of times when you have felt welcomed by someone. What words or actions communicated that welcome? Think of times when you did not feel welcomed by someone. What was different in that situation as compared to the first?
  • Make a list of words and behaviors that you believe are welcoming and a parallel list of words and behaviors you believe are not welcoming. Give the lists to at least two people you know and ask them if they agree. Would they exclude any words or behaviors from one list or the other? Would they add any words of behaviors? Ask them why or why not.
