Recall whether you have any memories of sharing a holiday, worship service, or celebration with someone whose spiritual or faith background was different from your own. Do you remember what it was like to be with this person’s family or in their community of worship? You might recollect how you felt, what was new and strange and what felt familiar.

Are you interested in sharing worship with someone of a different faith now? See if you can attend a worship service or celebration with someone of a different faith background, and invite them to accompany you to your place of worship if you have one. Enhance your visit with preparation. Write down what you are curious about, what you have been intrigued or perplexed by. Read some books on the faith or spiritual tradition and make a list of the questions you have. See if you can find the answers before you go. Imagine what the visit might be like. Recall other times you have felt uncomfortable or on the margin of a community. Consider what you were raised to believe about people of other faiths and what, if anything, you still believe to be true.
