Lectio divina (divine reading) is a way of deep listening to a scriptural text. Here's how it is generally done in the Christian tradition. Pick up a sacred text or holy scripture and call upon God to be present with you. Then read for 10 or 15 minutes from the text slowly, reflectively, pausing with any phrase or word that catches your attention, noting any new understandings you receive, especially regarding its meaning to your life. Some people find it valuable to read the text aloud. Listen to it with the ear of your heart and be receptive to God speaking to you through this vehicle. When you feel that you have heard a message, thank God and take the "Word" with you into the day.
