Kate Welles (Famke Janssen) has always been unlucky in love. This romantic comedy opens with her childhood memories of the pain of first love. Upset about the puff pieces she has to write for a women's magazine, this feisty journalist submits a raunchy article and quickly earns the ire of her persnickety boss. Asked to rewrite the piece, Kate recalls her romantic journeys over the years.

The most exhilarating and frustrating one is with Adam Levy (Jon Favreau), a painter who is funny, sensitive, talented, playful, and sexually gifted. But he is terribly jealous over her past relationships with other men. It wiggles in the back of their time together like a stone in a shoe. They move in together and become so relaxed in the relationship that they conclude the zip has gone out of their romance. Adam leaves her to pursue his own affairs. Then, much later, he re-enters Kate's life with a renewed desire to make her the only one.

This romantic comedy presents a sassy overview of sexual politics where men and women expect so much of each other. Writer and director Valerie Breiman has a firm grasp of the many obstacles that can derail a love relationship. In one of the most humorous developments, Kate starts dating Joey Santino (Josh Hopkins), one of Adam's favorite movie stars. This drives Adam crazy. His jealousy is so fierce that it kindles his yearning for Kate, and this leads to their reconnecting again. Love and Sex is a funny and spicy comedy that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the highs and the lows of a romantic relationship.
