Frankie Starlight is a poetic and poignant story of one lonely individual's spiritual search for beauty, meaning, and love. Bernadette (Anne Parillaud) flees France during World War II aboard an American troop ship and shortly after landing in Ireland gives birth to Frankie, a dwarf. An affair with Jack Kelly (Gabriel Byrne), a married man, brightens her life for a while and proves to be of inestimable value for the lonely Frankie (Alan Pentony). This customs official teaches him about the stars, which remain an obsession for the boy throughout his youth.

Bernadette hauls Frankie to Texas where she settles down with Terry (Matt Dillon), an ex-GI. But she is unhappy in that desolate place and soon decides to return to Ireland. As an adult Frankie (Corban Walker) transmutes his mother's tragic life into a bestselling novel. He then begins his own ardent quest for love with a woman from his past. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg and produced by Noel Pearson (My Left Foot) Frankie Starlight is one of those small films that shines brightly.
