Hotel Sorrento is an Australian film directed by Richard Franklin and set in a small beachside town near Melbourne. Meg Moynihan (Caroline Goodall), who lives in London, has written a bestselling novel about growing up in this provincial community. Following her father's death, Meg returns to the family home nicknamed "Hotel Sorrento." However, this reunion after ten years with her widowed sister (Caroline Gillmer) and a younger sister (Tara Morice), who has been living in America, sparks deep-seated resentments and jealousies.

Peter Fitzpatrick's multileveled screenplay covers several well-developed themes including love of place, sibling rivalry, and cultural differences between Australia, America, and England.
