All the Vermeers in New York is a fluid, fine, and enigmatic movie about love, money, and art. A successful Wall Street broker (Stephen Lack) falls in love with a beautiful French actress (Emmanuelle Choulet). He is lonely and she is self-absorbed. Despite their common admiration for the Dutch painter Vermeer whose works are on display at the Metropolitan Museum, they have trouble connecting. Writer and director Jon Jost is a master mood maker. The film, similar to Vermeer's art, evokes many different feelings about isolation, purity, awkwardness, enchantment, and death. Surrender yourself to this film and you'll experience what it's like to float on air.
