Geronimo: An American Legend
Directed by Walter Hill
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment 10/93 DVD/VHS Feature Film
PG- 13 - frontier violence

Wes Studi stars as the renegade Apache warrior who eluded the U.S. Army for a year before he finally surrendered in 1886. This sober-minded film, directed by Walter Hill, focuses upon the mediation efforts of U.S. Cavalry Lieutenant Charles Gatewood (Jason Patric), the man assigned to convince Geronimo to surrender. This soft-spoken Southerner has great respect for the Native American way of life. His cross-cultural perspective is contrasted with the gung ho militarism of his superior, a man convinced that these savages must step aside for the white expansion of the West. Sad for America that there weren't more Gatewoods in U.S. military history.
