Michael Blanc plays Monsieur Hire, a reclusive voyeur who is under investigation for the murder of a young woman. He becomes obsessed with watching Alice (Sandrine Bonnaire) who lives across the street from him. When Alice lets Monsieur Hire into her life, he finds himself on dangerous emotional and psychological ground. The film successfully explores the fine line between normality and abnormality in a world of large and small deceptions.
