There is an expression in Judaism, hesed shel emet, "authentic kindness." It refers to a good deed done in the knowledge that it will never be reciprocated. Some deeds of kindness can, at least unconsciously, be done with the expectation that the beneficiary will one day do something similar for you. "Authentic kindness" is done without that expectation.
