In traditional societies, visions are received and not made. They are bestowed upon persons by the Almighty, often against their intentions. Those who receive visions must be ready to change and respond to opportunities that fall upon them. In the shamanic world, visions always come upon the person from external sources whereas our current idea of creative inspiration is oriented toward something emerging from within.
