A shrine is a place that contains sacred or special objects to which we proffer attention and give value. These things carry memories and bear a significance that connects us to other people or experiences in the past or future. If we have more than one shrine in our house or room, each has attributes that distinguishes it from others. They are carefully maintained and focused places which bind us to the particulars of their beings and sometimes to things beyond themselves. The shrine is a living thing that generates feelings. It acts upon us, transforms, soothes, and gives pleasure, solace, or guidance. It is a place where spirits visit, congregate, and regenerate.
