Deciding upon a spiritual practice involves looking at your interests and needs, assessing your temperament and disposition, and deciding which spiritual practices you will actually do consistently. Our choice, part of our spiritual formation, leads to personal growth and personal transformation.

While it is a much larger decision, deciding which spiritual path is right for you is not unlike choosing a sport to become involved in. First, you must identify where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Then, you must align yourself and your personality with a sport that makes use of your strengths, but one that will also force you to confront your weaknesses. Finally, you must step out of your comfort zone to attend practices, learn new skills, and put those skills to use in a game setting. If one sport does not work out for you, it may be time to start over and choose another.

Similarly, spiritual formation involves a lot of getting to know yourself and engaging in trial and error.
