“Try the following release practices and see which calls to you most. Use any of them the next time you’re in a challenging moment.
1) Lie on your back with your legs long and about three feet apart. Windshield wiper your feet back and forth several times. Start slow, quicken the pace, then slow down again. Pause and notice the shifting sensation in your legs and body.
2) Lying down or sitting, open and close your hands quickly for a count of five. Pause and open your fingers wide for five seconds. Repeat. Shake out your hands and rest them, palms open, noticing the shifting sensation in your hands and body.
3) Stand with your feet three feet apart. Open your arms out to the side, breathe in, exhale, and cross your arms over your chest, placing your hands on the opposite shoulders, giving yourself a hug. Repeat with the other arm on top. End with arms wide open and notice the shifting sensations.
4) Sit on the ground or in a chair and hug your knees to your chest. Slowly rock back and forth, side to side, and front to back. Let your head soften toward your knees. Slow down and notice the shifting sensations in your head, neck, and body.”
