In this modern fable written by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and illustrated by Phoebe Stone, the various peoples of the world come up with their own names for God, which they are each convinced is the correct one. All of the names are appealing: Source of Life, Creator of Light, Shepherd. Maker of Peace, My Rock, Healer, Redeemer, Comforter, Ancient One, Mother, Father, and Friend. It is amazing to see the diversity in these honest and intimate expressions of faith and devotion.

It is also very clear that God likes being honored by different names and it is not necessary to choose among them. When all the people come together they realize the diversity in their expressions of belief. Even better, they cherish their unity and come together to call God One. This excellent book is recommended for children in grades K-5 and up.
