Double Happiness is a delightful Canadian comedy by writer and director Mina Shum. Jade is a dutiful Chinese-Canadian woman who lives at home with her parents and younger sister. She is forced to go out with men chosen by the family to be prospective husbands. Despite playing the role of a perfect daughter for her authoritarian father's friend from China, Jade never quite measures up at home. And in the real world outside, her career as an actress is stymied by her Chinese identity.

Nonetheless, Jade's spunkiness carries her into adulthood on her own and enables her to date Mark, a non-Asian who thinks she's a gem. Sandra Oh's buoyant performance as Jade is what gives this coming-of-age drama its effervescence.
