Iron Maze is set in a dying Pennsylvania town where the steel mill has shut down. When a wealthy Japanese entrepreneur (Hiro Murakami) arrives with his beautiful American wife (Bridget Fonda) to build an amusement park on the steel mill property, he triggers a great deal of resentment. Jeff Fahey plays a former steel worker who holds the key to explaining the reasons behind the brutal assault upon the Japanese entrepreneur. The American feature film debut of Japanese director Hiroaki Yoshida is marred by the decision to turn the drama away from the cross-cultural tensions and misunderstandings inherent in this volatile Japanese-American encounter in a steel town.
