Marianne (Marianne Sagebrecht) is a lonely, overweight woman who works at a Munich mortuary. She falls in love with Huber (Eisi Gulp), a handsome subway conductor who's unhappily married. With diligence and creativity, Marianne seduces him while his wife is out of town. Lacking in feminine pulchritude, she graces him with maternal-like tender, loving care. Writer-director Percy Adlon brings this drama to the screen in a visually stylized way, and the work of cinematographer Johanna Heer, who bathes the scenes in blues, pinks, and greens, effectively conveys the bittersweet quality of the love story.
