In my own religious life, I have come to recognize the need for submission to God as a part of religious devotion. I continue to struggle with this aspect of religious life, but I know the vital role it plays in the spiritual path. I accept that there is no room for God — however defined — in our lives until we can overcome our own willfulness, stubbornness, egotism. To thus submit, to "negate your will before God's will," is essential to accepting the covenant, . . . the readiness to serve as a channel for divine presence in the world.
