Although the way a person looks at something will influence its expressiveness and personal significance, objects are expressive in and of themselves. When I contemplate a burning log, I do not see its condition as expressive of my feelings. The vitality of logs, paintings, houses, and environments exist independently of human perceptions. They display their natures and project their spirits out to people. As Homer said in the Odyssey, "the soul flies out of things."

Objects convey energy, spiritual forces, and medicine to viewers who are able to open themselves to the life conveyed. The world is full of potential remedies if we can learn to access their resources.
