Ghosts are among our primary enchanters. We say we "don't believe in" ghosts, but ghosts, like most elements of enchantment, are not a matter of belief. Ghosts can be real without being scientifically measurable or even observable, and even if we strongly disbelieve in them, we might still sense their presence on a lonely night walk through an ancient cemetery. Ghosts haunt the scene of a crime, an old family home, or a relic of our ancestors, and just as the green people work at nature for our edification, ghosts keep our attention focused on past lives and the significant presence of death in all our lively activities.
