A blue whale named Sam takes a wrong turn and winds up on land. Nobody notices him until he meets Tim, a little boy who, like this great seafarer, feels like nobody sees him most of the time. "They both felt better knowing they weren't invisible." Some of his ideas don't work but Tim doesn't give up. After all, it's not every day you meet a new friend.

It is a very noble thing to return whales, dolphins, and turtles to the ocean. Buddhists even buy little fish from pet stores and then set them free. That kindly spirit is at the heart of this story by Cale Atkinson about a cross-species friendship that brings out the best in a blue whale and a lonely little boy. The tender dimensions of their relationship are nicely conveyed in the illustrations.
