Michael, a nine-year-old Jewish boy, is friends with Elijah, a black barber in his eighties who makes wordcarvings based on Bible stories. When Elijah gives Michael an angel for Christmas, the boy wonders if he should not accept this "Christian" gift, but his parents convince him to reciprocate with a gift from his own tradition, a handmade menorah.
