In this revised and updated edition of Quiet Answers (1982), Hugh Prather presents a 30-day program of affirmations and guided meditations on discovering peace and happiness. The author of 16 books states that we must choose love over fear:

"Fear and conflict are misdirections that create mental turmoil within so many of us. They are ways of not focusing, of not being whole. They keep the mind in a state of vulnerability that in turn makes the terrain of our life very hard and quite frightening. There are times when we don't even know what we are afraid of. We avoid something we are not even sure is there. Stillness dispels fear and conflict by restoring our willingness to look beyond the mere surface of individuals and events. . . . True gratitude is not based on the perception that others have less or suffer more. It is the recognition that love rather than apprehension holds lasting value, and that there is no end to the embrace of love. Because love does exist, you and I can be free."

Prather begins with a series of short and snappy essays of encouragement on potential, wisdom, control, vision, mind, miracles, grievances, listening, and more. He then moves on to 30 days of affirmations which include the following:

• Because God is with me, I am content to be wherever I am.
• Learning to respond to now is all there is to learn.
• I will make no effort to step ahead of God.
• All power and glory lie in my harmlessness, which is of God.
• Gentleness of thought is my way Home.
• Today I will not project.
• My mind is cradled in the peace of God.

As usual, Prather speaks to our condition and inspires us with fresh ways of loving in a world still replete with the fears of others. He sees the spiritual practice of love as the animating force that leads us to be forgiving, kind, and peaceful. By letting go of all the baggage that comes with fear, we are released to happiness.
