In 1992, Father Bede Griffiths (1906-1993) visited Perth, Australia where he gave two lectures. The first is entitled "A New Vision of Reality in the Light of Modern Science" and lasts 52 minutes. The English Benedictine monk salutes the work of Fritjof Capra and David Bohm for their scientific revelations about reality as a unified field of energies. Here the whole is present in every part. Father Bede links this view with the Eastern religious understanding that there is no separation between matter and consciousness. He then goes on to discuss the salutary presence of divine providence in the world as a force working for the good of all.

In the second lecture, "A New Vision of Reality in the Light of Christian Mysticism and Hindu Advaita" (82 minutes), Father Bede demonstrates how these two religions speak of reality in non-dual terms. The whole universe is celebrated as a web of interdependent relationships. In these two talks, we see the lineaments of a Christian faith that embraces both modern science and Eastern mysticism.
