The Piano Lesson is a rousing screen version of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play.

Charles Dutton plays Boy Willie, a stubborn young black man who yearns to purchase the Mississippi farmland his family once worked as slaves. To finance this venture, he wants to sell an ornately-carved piano which his sister (Alfre Woodard) treasures as a family heirloom.

The sparks fly as they bang heads and clarify their values about tradition, money, art, and great dreams animated by desire.
