A Place in the World is a soulful film by Adolfo Aristarain, an Argentine writer and director. The story is presented through the eyes of Ernesto, a 12-year-old boy whose parents, Ana, a doctor, and Mario, a teacher, have devoted their lives to the maintenance of a cooperative for poor shepherds in a remote Argentine valley. This organization was founded by Nelda, a Catholic nun who is given a hard time by her superiors for her radical politics. Ernesto tries to find his place in the world by carrying on a secret love affair with a girl he is teaching to read and by sizing up the morality of Hans, a freelance geologist who takes an interest in him. This thematically vibrant film succeeds in its presentation of idealists who want to improve the world.
