Meditation

Compassion is another name for community. It is the mirror of relatedness that accepts the pain and weakness of another as one's own. It is an expression of love that says "you belong to me."

For Reflection

  • Take some quiet time to reflect on your community. Who do you belong to and who belongs to you? What is the value of community in your life?
  • Volunteer in a community event that challenges you to put aside your own concerns. Take time to reflect on this experience. How did it change your perception of yourself in relation to others?
  • If you live in community (whether family or religious), try to be conscious of the needs of others and reflect on your efforts to be compassionate.
  • Pray and reflect on the words of Jesus: "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them" (Matthew 18:20).
