The tyrannical nafs is a collection of all those inner forces that lead us away from doing God's Will. Carl Jung pointed out that forces in the psyche tend to organize themselves into what he called "complexes." These are collections of psychic fragments grouped around a nuclear element. For the tyrannical nafs this central element is our sense of separateness plus narcissism or excessive self-love.
