I see the mystical and contemplative as the necessary grounding for social action and involvement in issues of justice. I see the spiritual life as a summons to astonishment, and this recovery of wonder as an antidote to intra-Christian warfare. It is primal because life comes to us as sheer gift, and to talk about this amazing gift, we have to use analogy, metaphor, and symbol.
