Jesus, who was perhaps the most accomplished practitioner of unrestricted availability the world has seen, told us, "If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well." Be available to all, he's saying. Welcome them on their own terms and not your own. If I take Jesus seriously, I will have to practice mindful availability with the group that slaps my cheek with their opposing political and religious ideas.
