“Many Augustinian communities are located in large cities and so are part of the religious and ethnic diversity around them. As the world grows more inter-connected, we all regularly encounter people from other religious and cultural traditions; interreligious contact in daily, local life is inevitable for many of us. In some countries, Augustinian communities may be part of a minority Christian population, living among Muslim, Hindu, Shinto, or Buddhist majorities. In any case, Augustinian friendship and hospitality can inspired outreach to neighbors and citizens across religious difference, remembering Augustine’s counsel to Proba, “There is no one in the human race to whom we do not owe love.’”
