American-born Tibetan Buddhist nun Pema Chodron offers fifty-nine slogans that are “the primary focus of [her] personal practice and teaching.” These slogans come from The Root Text of the Seven Points of Training the Mind by the Tibetan meditation master Chekawa Yeshe Dorje.

Chodron offers her own insights for working with each slogan, which include “Always maintain only a joyful mind,” “Don’t be swayed by external circumstances,” “Don’t try to be the fastest,” and “Be grateful to everyone.” She suggests randomly picking a slogan and practicing it every day as a means of “us[ing] everything we encounter in our lives — pleasant or painful — to awaken genuine, uncontrived compassion.”
