True Women is based on an historical novel by Janice Woods Windle. It aired in May 1997 as a miniseries on CBS Television. This sweeping saga directed by Karen Arthur and produced by Craig Anderson conveys the turbulence of five decades of American history from the Texas Revolution, through Indian uprisings and the Civil War, right on to the start of the women's suffrage movement.

Dana Delany gives a towering performance as a charismatic and courageous Texas woman who grows in moral stature as her soul and spirit are tested again and again. Annabeth Gish stars as her idealistic younger sister Euphemia, and Angelina Jolie is featured as her best friend, a racially mixed woman. Although these heroines all bear their own burdens of suffering, their trials and tribulations bring out the best that is in them.
