This book by Elizabeth Groppe, Associate Professor of Theology at Xavier University, Cincinnati, is part of Fortress Press's Compass series "Christian Explorations of Daily Living" edited by David Jensen. In the best of the three sections of this paperback, the author pays close attention to what she eats and drinks on a normal day with pieces on coffee, breakfast, midmorning energy break, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. She probes behind the cereal, the banana, the hamburger, the chocolate, and the chicken she eats alone or with her son. A whole world is connected to these edibles along with the suffering and exploitation of poor people around the globe.

The second and more theological section deals with Eden and then the inclusive table fellowship of Jesus. The final section focuses on the central practices of eating within the Christian tradition: fasting, blessing, sharing bread, extending compassion, turning swords into plowshares, feasting, and giving thanks.
