Larry Peacock is executive director of Rolling Ridge Retreat and Conference Center in North Andover, Massachusetts, and the author of several books. In this second edition of Openings, we are treated to a daybook that provides suggestions for anyone interested in celebrations of personal, religious, and cultural holidays and events. Peacock sees the book as a personal companion for spiritual growth, a resource for leading retreats, teaching prayer practices, opening meetings, and crafting prayers.

Each day's reading has a notable person of faith or a significant event; a psalm or other scripture passage; a chance to glean meanings from the Bible or the person described; and ways to practice prayer through play, music, and physical movement. Here are some ideas we took away from this top-drawer resource.

• Gazing at an icon from the Eastern Orthodox tradition
• A contemplative walk to greet a new day
• A gratitude game to tenderize your heart
• Prayers for the four directions from the Native American
• Joining your prayers of intercession with God's ongoing prayer for all creation
• Letting each time you touch or see water be a call to meditation on this precious resource
• Taking a deep sigh breath and letting go of your anxiety and worry of the day.
• Doing some spiritual reading each day
