This book describes the author's spiritual journey in terms of her flesh. May, an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, begins with a vigil over her dying mother and then moves on to her own near-death experience during a lengthy hospitalization. These help set the tone for her creative ideas on practicing resurrection. May shares the spiritual wisdom she has wrested from breast cancer and a bout with manic depression. The author's coming out as a lesbian is another way in which she walks "out of the tomb." May critiques denominational Christian churches for the walls they continue to build. She affirms the women-church movement for its hospitality toward all. A Body Knows is a fresh example of embodied theology.
