This is a very scholarly work which explores the interface between the spiritual insight and inner discipline of Tibetan Buddhism and the political and psychological goals of American feminism. The author, who is professor of religious studies at Rice University, sees Buddhist practices of mindfulness, compassion, and selflessness as resources for modern women on a journey toward wholeness. She then looks at the mystical Great Bliss Queen as a source of wisdom and enlightenment. Klein's efforts to link Buddhism with women's efforts to craft a vibrant self are commendable.
